Native to Asia, Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora cineoliferum) also known as Madagascan Camphor, yields an essential oil, derived from the distillation of its leaves, that smells like Camphor. Not to be confused with Ravensare (Ravensara aromatica), a tree unfortunately in the process of extinction, which produces two essential oils (depending on whether the leaves or the bark are used) whose properties are different from those of Ravintsara. The essential oil that is commonly sought after is Ravintsara for its antiviral and immunostimulant properties.
